How One Social Worker Changed a Life
Cluny Joseph-Savage has done a lot in her life. She serves as a consultant for a health care talent acquisition firm and even owns and operates her own food truck, CJ’s Kitchen Caribbean Cuisine & Catering, with plans on franchising in the future.
When she was younger, Cluny felt out of place among her peers in New York City and struggled to stay out of trouble. She eventually came in contact with a social worker who advocated for Cluny to get a fresh start by attending Job Corps.
“She was my saving grace,” Cluny said. “That decision shifted my whole life.”
Job Corps was Cluny’s first exposure to campus life. She loved the social activities on campus. The residential advisors served as her mentors, and her instructors were hands-on and pushed her to excel. The supportive environment gave Cluny a sense of balance.
Within a year and a half, Cluny graduated with her Certified Nurse Assistant training, high school equivalency credential and several other credentials. She then attended Mercy College in New York, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in organizational leadership.
