Oneonta Job Corps Unveils New Overhead Line Training Towers
Job Corps continues to create and foster relationships that help provide quality training for our students and allow alumni to remain involved in the program even after they graduate.
Last month, Job Corps students, alumni, center staff and community members gathered at the Oneonta Job Corps Center in Oneonta, N.Y., for an unveiling of two new telecommunication towers for students.

The 100-foot tripod-style tower and the 75-foot monopole tower, the tallest in Job Corps history, will serve as training stations for students in the Overhead Line Advanced Training program.
Pro-Tel employee and Oneonta Job Corps alum Armindo Ortiz-Bailon assisted with building the new towers at his alma mater and was instrumental in establishing the relationship between Pro-Tel and the Oneonta Job Corps Center. With Armindo’s guidance, Pro-Tel and the instructors at Oneonta Job Corps worked together to design and build new towers that maximize the student training experience and better prepare the next generation of overhead linemen.
Other alumni from the Overhead Line Advanced Training program were also in attendance to talk about their experiences at Job Corps, connect with current students and share stories about where they are now.
Job Corps Youth 2 Youth
To help the Job Corps community battle the effects of lethal drugs and violence, as well as the growing rates of mental health struggles across the nation, Job Corps recently reimagined its Youth 2 Youth, or Y2Y, initiative. Activities and events are hosted on or around campuses to empower students to prevent violence and drug use, take care of their mental health, and discuss solutions to help support others in the community. Check out some of the Y2Y activities that took place on Job Corps campuses in the past month!
Turner Job Corps students organized a dodgeball game called “Dodging Bullying” to promote unity and encourage each other to take action to create safe and supportive environments for all.
David L. Carrasco Job Corps students participated in a “Peace Walk” on the International Day of Peace. Students united together to paint and discuss positive thoughts.
